Wamei 和明 - Limited Edition Matcha, Freshly Milled to Order from Miyazaki
A Matcha for Those Who Seek the Best
Wamei (和明) means harmony and morning light. It’s a name that reflects both the quiet presence of a well-prepared bowl of tea, and the clarity it can bring to your day. This is not an everyday matcha — it is a rare expression of Japanese craftsmanship, offered only by pre-order, and freshly stone-milled in Japan just before delivery to preserve its full character.
Only 30 kilograms of tencha — the raw leaf used to make matcha — are produced each year for Wamei. Once it’s gone, there is no restock until the following harvest.
Cultivar & Craft
Wamei is a precise blend of Okumidori and Samidori cultivars, grown in the temperate, mountain-fed terroir of Miyazaki Prefecture. These cultivars offer a rare balance of gentle umami, floral brightness, and smooth sweetness. The tencha is shaded using traditional canopy methods, picked by hand, and finished with great care before being stored in a low-humidity environment until it is milled to order.
Every batch is ground in Japan with traditional stone mills, in small quantities, ensuring the powder you receive is vivid, aromatic, and as fresh as possible.
A Farmer’s Dedication
Behind the matcha is Takeshi-san, a third-generation tea producer who transformed his family’s farm in the face of immense challenges. Years ago, a contamination incident forced him to rethink everything. Rather than quit, he rebuilt — slowly, mindfully, and with full respect for the land.
Through years of trial and intuition, he adopted traditional soil techniques and natural farming philosophies. The result is not just healthier plants — it’s a tea that carries the story of its land and the resilience of its maker.
Takeshi-san doesn’t chase mass production. He works in rhythm with the land, producing only what he can oversee with his own hands. Wamei is one of his rarest offerings — and one of his proudest.
